I recently had the chance to see a short movie on youtube. It is called “Children of Fire” by Junius Hughes. It is a movie that captures the importance and dangers of stove safety and the consequences for children due to unsafe paraffin stoves.
Consider these statistics: 9 children die every day in South Africa due to fire accidents that could have been prevented. 15,000 children are injured in such cooking fire incidents every year.
While we always knew the perils of cooking accidents and what an impact it has on children, we gasped at these kind of statistics. And to think that all these hardships could be prevented by more care or a safer design.
Indeed a very inspiring and awakening movie. Read more about the charity here
Makes us want to hope that our design of toppling-safe stoves will contribute towards mitigating such hardships.
